2K is expected to announce “exciting new franchise” later this month

Publisher 2K is expected to announce an “exciting new franchise” later this month, in line with parent company Take-Two’s first quarter 2022 earnings call last night.

As reported by Video Games Chronicle, Take-Two Chairman Karl Slatoff said, “Later this month 2K will unveil details of another exciting new franchise slated for launch this fiscal year.” . This means the new franchise is slated for release by March 31, 2022.

While the company hasn’t hinted at what the new series might be, it did reveal a few other interesting nuggets during the call. First, that he had delayed the launch of two “Immersive Cores” titles until later in the current fiscal year – although, again, he didn’t name them. In May, on the company’s previous earnings conference call, the company initially announced that it would release four such “immersive core” titles out of a total of 21 games slated for next year.

The company also revealed during the call that Grand Theft Auto V had taken a new step in sales. The now eight-year-old open-world crime adventure now has shipped 150 million copies, even before it officially hits the Xbox Series X | S and PlayStation 5 later this year.

Earlier this year, it was rumored that a Tiny Tina-led Borderlands spin-off and an XCOM spin-off set in the world of Marvel were both in the works. The first has since been officially announced in June as Little Tina’s Wonderland. Could this Marvel / XCOM reveal be the next?

It is believed 2K will announce its new game at this year’s Gamescom event, which is expected to take place later this month. Hopefully we’ll find out more during Gamescom Opening Night Live, which begins August 25.
