Chinese man taken into custody after allegedly stealing semi-truck and crashing into pole, parked cars and house – CBS Los Angeles

POMONA (CBSLA) – A 27-year-old Chino man, Matthew Paul Gonzalez, was arrested on Saturday after he stole a large drilling truck, leading police in a chase and crashed into a utility pole, several parked vehicles, a cinder block wall and, finally, a house.

Pomona Police received a call regarding the large rig, stolen from a tire store in Montclair, at around 12:19 p.m. from the owner of the vehicle following Gonzalez through the town of Pomona.

Police located the stolen semi in the Reservoir Street and Philadelphia Street area. However, Gonzalez was unable to give way to the officers and continued to drive east on Philadelphia Street.

Around Pipeline Avenue, the suspect lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole, parked cars, a cinder block wall and eventually collided with a house.

Gonzalez was arrested, taken into custody at a local hospital and held in Pomona City Jail for large car theft.

Several houses in the area were deprived of electricity as a result of the incident. No one was at the house at the residence the tractor-trailer collided with, but the house sustained severe structural damage and was assessed by the Chino Valley Fire Department. Homeowners are offered assistance through the American Red Cross.

The semi-trailer house sustained severe structural damage and was assessed by the Chino Valley Fire Department.

The car theft is under investigation by the Montclair Police Department, while the traffic collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
