How the Lucky Sea Enchantment works in Minecraft

There are only a few enchantments that can be used on fishing rods in Minecraft, but the best of them might be the Luck of the Sea enchantment.

The luck of the sea is generally underestimated, but it is one of the best enchantments a player can use in Minecraft for a number of reasons. The following provides a brief guide to the Minecraft Sea Luck enchantment, including how it works.

Luck of the Sea is an enchantment that increases the chance of collecting rare loot through fishing.

When it comes to fishing, there are three possible loot categories: Fish, Treasure, and Junk. Naturally, fish are the most common of these, followed by unwanted and then rare items which are considered treasures.

Like other enchantments, Sea Luck has three possible levels: I, II or III. If the fishing rod has a higher level, the chances of catching fish actually decrease. However, the change is quite small, representing only a few decimal places.

With each level of sea luck, the chances of fishing for treasure increase dramatically; it increases by about 2 percent at each level. The chances of catching unwanted objects also drop significantly, dropping by 2 percent at all levels.

The CaptainSparklez video above provides some great advice for Minecraft players looking for any kind of enchantment in the game.

Regarding Sea Luck specifically, it can be obtained through an enchantment table, by enchanting a book, or by finding an already enchanted book in a loot chest. Interestingly, it can also be found by fishing a fishing rod with Luck of the Sea already enchanted on it.

Why gamers should use Luck of the Sea

As mentioned, Luck of the Sea will increase the chances of catching treasure while decreasing the chances of catching garbage or fish. Below is a list of potential items that can be obtained through Fishing.

  • Name tag
  • Enchanted Fishing Rod
  • Bow
  • Shellfish
  • Saddle

  • Salmon
  • Cod
  • Puffer fish
  • Tropical fish

  • String of characters
  • Nenuphar
  • bowl
  • Leather
  • Leather boots
  • To stick on
  • Bottle of water
  • Rotten flesh
  • BONE

While it might seem a bit tedious to fish these items, it could save the effort that would otherwise be spent obtaining them individually by other methods. Especially when it comes to ultra rare items like badges, fishing is probably the easiest way to get them, and Luck of the Sea will further increase the likelihood of finding one.

On top of all that, fishing is one of the easiest and fastest ways to earn XP in Minecraft. Therefore, Luck of the Sea is definitely worth the investment for players looking for cool items and high XP levels.
