Red Dead Redemption podcast ahead of its time

Isaiah: Hello everyone and welcome to my podcast for Talon Marks. (Hand sounds) My name is Isaiah Lonvelin, I’m one of the college editors, and what I’m going to talk about is my all-time favorite video game, the two Red Dead Redemption games. The games have been out for a while, but if you’ve never played them and want to, spoilers are coming.

Isaiah: I’ve played both of these games since they came out, and I don’t think I’ll ever enjoy another game like this for a long time. Unless they do Red Dead Redemption 3.

Isaiah: Anyway… when Rockstar came out with the first RDR game it was a success, and I think the reason it was a success is because of the script. I Mena Rockstar always came up with a great script for their games, but something about it was different.

Isaiah: If you’ve never played this game, you play as a character by the name of John Marston, who ran with a gang called ‘Van Der Linde Gang’ but left to pursue a better life with his family. (Breathe) But eventually the law finds you and an ‘Agent Ross’ game villain tells you that you have to kill your remaining old gang members to live free again, but otherwise you will be killed.

Isaiah– So like I said for the game, you have to find three of your former gang members Bill Williamson, Javier Escuella and Dutch leader Van Der Linde.

Isaiah– It sounds simple, but Rockstar made it… this game is a free roaming game where you choose to do whatever you want, and where NPCs and other characters take you on adventures and do you a favor to help you catch them.

Isaiah– Also, with this game, the scenery is just beautiful for the time they created it, and you could say the graphics still stand to this day. As well as having side missions that you enjoyed that weren’t boring, good instead of working on a ranch. You are saved in the first half of the game by a character, Bonnie MacFarlane, and you do some farming activities to pay off your debt, which is extremely annoying.

Isaiah– But when you play in the game you feel like you are actually John Marston, I hope you get what I mean, but you feel the character. He tries to leave the gang life he was born into just to be with his family, but the gang life cannot leave him. You hope he can just be back with his family and try to help the guy.

Isaiah– He ends up getting the two members Javier and Bill and you choose to kill them or capture them. But throughout the story you hear John talk about his life with the gang, and how it was more of a family and how their leader Dutch was a father figure to all, but quickly went mad and lost his mind and was decided to become a thug.

Isaiah– You end up catching up with Dutch, and again great Rockstar writings, because even if you only see it a few times, the number that John talks about him and the stories for NPCs you see Dutch as that leader and see how much of an influencer he was, but you capture him and Dutch has this monulage which is awesome but he jumps off the cliff and dies. You have fulfilled your mission.

Isaiah– Rockstar puts on music for its games and sound effects that match the game so well. When you ride your horse, music plays when you go on a mission or whatever and it makes you feel like be in a movie. When you get Dutch you go back to your family again.

Isaiah– The song that’s playing matches the present moment, and you just get overwhelmed because you’ve played to get back to John’s family and have the adventure that’s right. The song is called ‘Compass’ and it’s going really well.

Isaiah– In the end, Agent Ross breaks his promise and goes to John Ranch to kill him, and you try to fight them to save your family, and in the end, John sacrifices himself to allow his family to escape .

Isaiah– The story is sad in a way because you did all this work just to be betrayed by the law, but you play as his son Jack Marston for revenge and the game ends by killing Agent Ross in a duel . But this game was fun to play not only for the gameplay but also for the storyline, the music, the different characters and the gameplay with the movement and the old western weapons used. It was once again a fun game to play.

Isaiah– Then fast forward to 2018 and Rockstar introduces us to the prequel story of Red Dead Redemption. Where we go back to the days of the Van Der Linde gang and play a new character Arthur Morgan. The right hand of the Dutch.

Isaiah– The way this game was developed is a chef’s kiss. The whole landscape is taken from a world bigger than the one you were in the first game, and that world was already big enough. You have animals chasing other animals, 100 NPCs doing different things and having different dialects.

Isaiah– Rockstar has improved this game a lot, even giving players more weapons and having the ability to customize your weapons, customize your dress style and hunt animals to craft clothes and other items like having mats for the game. camping and trophies.

Isaiah– But the game is the prequel giving the origins of the gang and introducing new characters other than the ones we know from the first game. Arthur Morgan is the one we play, and that character in my opinion was very well written.

Isaiah– Arthur is a bit like an anti-hero. He’s a good guy, but can be the bad guy in an instant and someone you don’t want to mess around with, and honestly I can say I enjoyed playing him more than John Marston.

Isaiah– But playing this game is a lot of fun, and you can tell why it took them eight years to create with all the little details scenes like fire, melting snow, shadows and when day turns into night.

Isaiah-But again, what sold me was the story told, about how this gang that was really not a gang but a family trying to live the American dream, but to live that they need to fly and to steal in order to survive. They have a leader that we all know and who promises to get them there.

Isaiah– Going on missions and side quests is different from other games because it’s not boring to travel from side to side, and it’s like you could get robbed or have to help someone get kidnapped , help a pedestrian or even see someone have their horse stolen.

Isaiah– You can see the whole translation of the gang being this tight group to a falling out later, and through this game you get closer to the characters to end up like a bad breakup.

Isaiah-You see the bright side of the gang members, but as you progress through the story, you see characters become more aggressive and want to follow in the footsteps of the Dutch gone crazy for power.

Isaiah– By playing Arthur, he’s a mysterious man, but by playing more, you discover who is, how he grew up and why he is the way he is. He grew up like John, and in the game Arthur is diagnosed with TB and doesn’t have long to live.

Isaiah– He tries to make amends with everyone he’s wronged, and in the end, when the gang breaks up, he helps John and his family get out because he thinks he could still do something. good thing in his life. He sacrifices himself for John and in the end dies fighting one of the protagonists Micha.

Isaiah– This game is the best I have played, and it is something that a lot of people can play even if you are not very fond of video games. It’s like that show that you never want to end but that did too.

Isaiah-The way the production team made this game like you’ve known the characters for so long is just insane because you actually feel for these video game characters. People like these characters like their actors, but it’s actually a video game with actors.

Isaiah: I wish I could erase this game from my memory so that I could play it again for the first time because after you finished both, it was like ending a show you’ve been watching forever.

Isaiah-These two titles are the best games in my opinion, I know there are a lot of them but that’s my opinion.

Isaiah– If you’re still listening, thanks for letting me tell you about this game, this is Isaiah Lonvelin from Talon Marks. Have a good day and hope to see you next time.
