Red Dead Redemption Remake Release Date: PS4, PS5, Xbox, PC, Switch

Fans are calling for a Red Dead Redemption Remake release date. It’s been 12 years since the groundbreaking game was released and nearly four years since the prequel launched on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Although Xbox backwards compatibility allows users to play RDR with some graphical improvements, we are all ready to see the original brought up to par with the much-loved RDR2 with a full remake.

When will we see a Red Dead Redemption Remake release date?

So far, there is no official release date for Red Dead Redemption Remake. Rockstar Games hasn’t confirmed it’s working on one, and we don’t expect to see one in the near future. There were rumors of a Red Dead Redemption remake before the release of the second game in the series, but nothing substantial came of it.

The most significant evidence in favor of a possible Red Dead Redemption remake is the fact that the entire map is in RDR2. Mexico is not accessible by normal means, but the colonies on the American side are there, although Arthur cannot visit them, and the player has little to do there with John in the epilogue. It was assumed that these assets would be used to produce an RDR remake, even though it was only one that transferred the assets from the former into the upgraded engine.

It is likely that one of three things has happened:

  • An RDR remake is in production, and nothing major has managed to leak.
  • An RDR remake was in production but canceled as was the single-player DLC for GTAV.
  • There was never an RDR remake in the works.

Of the three, we bet number two is the most likely. Our bet is that the developers have started preliminary work on an RDR remake DLC or a separate game during production on RDR2. We imagine the departure of key personnel and increased focus on GTA Online led to its cancellation.

What platforms would the RDR remake be on?

We imagine it would be a cross-generational title if made. This would likely come with a current-gen upgrade to RDR2. If it’s on the way, we imagine we’ll see it sometime after the current-gen GTA V upgrade is released.
